Day 16: The Best Baby Lullaby

2002: Our first little baby boy

Sweet, fuzzy baby heads. Priceless little baby noises. Cuddly warmth that radiates such surrender and trust in your arms. Breathe in the memories and hold them there. Breathe out the sleepless nights, the incessant crying, and the stress of feeding. Those were precious days.

Our youngest son is now two years old. He has steadily and way-too-quickly graduated to big boy noises like crashes, shooting, and spaceship lift-offs. His bedtime routine still involves rocking and reading his selected board books now peeled and slobbered on by all three. A lullaby has remained consisted year after year, boy after boy.

Jesus loves me this I know. For the Bible tells me so.

Little ones to Him belong. They are weak but He is strong.

Yes, Jesus loves me. Yes, Jesus loves me.

Yes, Jesus loves me. The Bible tells me so.

Listen to Christy Nockels.

In my off-tune, cracky little voice, I sing this truth with much conviction. I want him to hear that he is loved, not only by his family, but by his great and powerful God. I want him to hear over and over, night after night that he is loved, he is loved, he is loved. As if woven within the fabric of his soul.

Listening to how much I am loved is as important as speaking it out (singing, rejoicing, and proclaiming).

Let me hear in the morning of Your steadfast love,
for in You I trust.
Make me know the way I should go,
for to You I lift up my soul. Psalm 143:8 (ESV)

I am to be quiet, stop talking, be still and pay attention in the morning, before the clutter and noise drowns out the truth.

Listen to the truth of who God is and who you are.

God says to you…

“You are loved. Every bit of who you are was formed with My powerful, wise, strong hands. Every bit. Your features, the way you walk, your personality, sense of humor. Crafted by Me. Even that big nose or little chin or squinty eyes. I made you just the way you are for a special and specific purpose. You do not need to be afraid of anything. I am with you. I have lifted you off the shelf of your filthy sin, gently washed off the grime, and claimed you as My own. You belong to Me. I have called you by your name, tenderly, gently, loving, intimately. With Me, you are safe. With Me, you are accepted. With Me, there is no judgement or condemnation or heaviness of what you should do. I just like you for you, not for what you can do for Me. I will never leave you, no matter what may come: rain, floods, fire, pain, loss, disease, cancer, abandonment. Nothing will get to you through My strong embrace. I am here. I’ve got your back. You are precious to be. Noticed. Valued. I think of you. I see you as I have created you not by how you see yourself. Just because. I love you.”
